Local physician honored by Maine Primary Care Association

Dr. Amy Madden receives organization’s Karen Hallee Award

BELGRADE –  Belgrade Regional Health Center’s Dr. Amy Madden recently received the Karen J. Hallee, MD Memorial Award for New Medical Professionals, which is open to primary care physicians in their first five years of practice.

Because of her "dedication to the community, compassion for patients, commitment to implementing the best models of patient care, as well as good humor and grace, Amy received this distinguished award," according to an MPCA official. "She was instrumental in Belgrade’s receipt of the Patient-Centered Medical Home grant, which will ensure Belgrade's leadership in providing the highest quality of care based on best practices."

During her first year in practice Madden has enjoyed building the relationships with her patients and the community.

“The rewards and challenges of practicing in a rural area have taught me a lot about the "art" of medicine,” said Madden. “I also feel fortunate to start my career working with a team of people who are committed to giving our patients excellent quality health care.”

The biggest challenge Madden has found so far is watching uninsured or underinsured patients make health care decisions based on their finances. "That fuels my resolve to be a part of a solution that allows all people access to affordable, quality health care," Madden added.

Belgrade Regional Health Center is a practice of HealthReach Community Health Centers, a system of eleven federally qualified health centers and two dental centers in central and western Maine. To ensure access for everyone, HealthReach accepts all major insurances, Medicare, and MaineCare, and offers an Affordable Care Program based on family size and income to uninsured and underinsured residents. A private, non-profit organization with a 30-year history, HealthReach is funded by patient fees, grants and individual donations.
